Hello there everyone,

Well, what a restless night we all had last night!  I hope you are all starting to settle down after the disruption and that your families around the country are all ok.

It actually seems like an age ago but last week we had another fantastic week of swimming at Wharenui Pool last week.  On our last day, the children learnt about water safety.  Have a look at the photos ...............

Earlier in the day on Thursday, our writing theme was all about writing instructions on how to brush our teeth.  Of course in order write this piece of writing, we had to brush our teeth ...........

As a result of this experience, some wonderful instructions were written by your children .... please come in and have a look!

Hello everyone,

Your child may have told you about the Bee Bot Robotics session were had with Rebecca from Science Alive yesterday ... it was amazing!!!

First we talked about directions .... we had to direct Blake to walk to a drink bottle.

Then we directed Hayley to walk forwards to the drink bottle, walk backwards and then turn towards the door.

THEN WE USED OUR KNOWLEDGE OF DIRECTIONS TO PROGRAMME OUR BEE ROBOTS!

Everyone had a wonderful time!  Thank you so much to Blake's mum, Laura and Tandia's mum for coming along to help us.  We really appreciated your help :)

AND, another thank you - this time to EVERYONE who brought along donations to our collection for the St Vincent de Paul Society.  There was truly an AMAZING selection of quality toys and books which Mr Paul Gilroy from Halswell St Vincent de Paul Society came to collect today.  He was  so so appreciative of what you all gave - thank you.

Just a reminder about swimming next week - you are all so welcome to pop along to any of our sessions and help children get changed.  We swim each day at 12.00 and are out of the pool at 12.30.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

TERM 4 WEEK 2

Hello there everyone, I hope you are all having a wonderful Labour weekend.

Week 2 was again a very busy week in Room 2!  In Maths, the Giraffes are learning about halves so as part of this, they made honey sandwiches during one of their lessons which they then cut in half, making sure that each part was the same size.  And of course they got to eat the sandwich at the end ...

You will have received a notice last week about our collection of quality toys and games to donate to the St Vincent de Paul Society.  This is all in relation to our unit on Mary Mackillop.  We have been talking a great deal about one of her sayings .... "Never see a need without trying to do something about it".  During RE on Thursday, we went outside and put this saying into action!

PUTTING AWAY THE DOMINOES

PUTTING AWAY CONNECT FOUR

WE FOUND A SUNHAT ON THE FIELD SO WE RETURNED TO THE RIGHTFUL OWNER.

WE FOUND RUBBISH ON THE FIELD SO PICKED IT UP AND PUT IT IN THE BIN.

We also continued learning about seeds .... Wednesday's lesson was all about where we find seeds ... look how many we found just by what was in my fridge and pantry!!

On Thursday, we investigated what was actually in seeds.  Below are some Pinto beans which we soaked in warm water for 24 hours and then opened them up.  We all found a tiny shoot in our seeds which was beginning to grow!!  Ask your child to tell you all about it as although the shoot was VERY small, we all were able to find it in our own Pinto bean seed!

Finally on Friday we continued our Paper Mache unit by actually paper macheing our bugs.  Thank you so so much to Hayley's mum, Blake's mum and Laura for all of your help - it was a very messy task but it was HEAPS of fun and we couldn't have done it without you!

And look at this!  During TRUMP time after lunch, the children love to create and draw .... the photo below shows what Blake created and what Lily drew of his creation.  Talk about awesome!!

GARDENING FRIDAY

WOW!  What amazing gardeners your children are!  We had a fantastic session in the garden on Friday - we completely tidied out the Rutherford Team planter box (the yellow one below) so it is now all ready for us to start sowing seeds into.  THEN we moved onto tidying up different parts of the Good Life.  There are a LOT of weeds in there but your children made a fantastic start to tidying it all up!  It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm to get stuck in but most importantly, there was so much learning going on - the children were learning to make sure they didn't just take the top of the weed out but also to have the root attached as they knew that this would grow again if they didn't.  Well done Room 2!
